The Merger

It's been a long time. Too long. But I  write to today of exciting news!!! (Well at least exciting news to me.) I combined my two blogs!!!!! (Yay??) Yes, yay. It is something I've been wanting to do for a while now and I finally got around to doing it.

The Old One:

My previous blog was called I Saw A Turtle On A Fence, and I kept it up for about a year and a half, ending it in February of last year. It was a great platform for me to express my thoughts and ideas of the moment as well as challenge myself with things like the 12 Days of DIY and the 50 Book Challenge. I felt a lot freer there than I do with this blog, so I decided to merge them. Since I never deleted Turtles, twas simple, exporting the old blog and importing it into the new one.

Changes:

Naturally, there will be some changes. Most notably the layout. The old Dynamic theme worked well with all the posts I've written since being in Salamanca, since they (almost), all have pictures. But on Turtles, there tended not to be as many photos. So I tried to pick something that was suitable for both. I'm still tinkering around with it so it be pink one day and green the next. Bare with me :)

Secondly, I think I'm going to start posting more often; not only things about my travels, but whatever I feel like be it culture, music, youtube, politics, fasion, DIYs or just my general opinion on a subject. Sounds good?

On another note, about two weeks ago I went to Ireland with Em and tonight Vi + us are heading to the airport to fly off to Italy tomorrow morning! I'm looking forward to it! I will write a post or two about Ireland and post them in the up coming days. Have a good Wednesday!

The Other Side of Nuit Blanche

Yesterday I wrote a post about volunteering for Nuit Blanche for my uni's blog, BlogUT (I attend the University of Toronto, fyi). I haven't posted anything here in a while but I'm working on some stuff :) I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the content on both blogs because it might be property of BlogU, so I'm just going to place a link and hope you guys will check it out :)

The Decorated Cookie (a blog)

About a month ago, I came across a blog as I was searching the net for some yummy treats to make. I just happened to find the site The Decorated Cookie. I LOVE IT!!! Honestly, if you are looking for awesome recipes and ideas for baking or making candy goods, this is definitely the place for you. It is so easy to navigate and very well ogranized. Everything just looks so delicious and I admit, I am guilty of a little mouth drool now and then.

Because Halloween is coming up, I was looking at the different treats I could attempt. There were things like chocolate spiders, zombie marshmallows (which are actually pretty cute), ghost and monster cookies, and so much more! (As you can probably tell, I'm terribly excited - I have the biggest sweet tooth ever).

Aren't those the most delicious things you've seen all day!!! source
The author has a ton of experience in the cookie decorating industry and always seems inspired by her creations. She has also published a few books, with a new one on the way next year.

Here's a link to the Halloween/fall treat ideas. Happy baking :D

Fave Posts: Crafting Brilliance

Over the years I have perused many crafting sites looking for tutorials and inspirations for my fleeting brushes with the artistic world. And after some searching and wandering around the web, soaking in people's creativity, I've come up with some of my favourite posts on crafting blogs and sites in recent years. These have either served as inspiration for some fanciful idea or provided the template for some random thing I have or want to create. Enjoy :)

1) Twister Rain Coat - Craftster.org: When I saw this post on the site , I was amazed. I never would have thought to create a coat using a Twister Mat. I really want to try this now. P.S. Craftster.org is perhaps one of my favourite crafting sites. It is well organized, has a large database and you can find almost anything there, if you know how to look.

2) Fish to Sushi Plushie - Cut Out and Keep: I saw this, tried it, and it came out awesome!!! You can see my version here. This site is good to post and find all sorts of tutorials as well as your own versions of things you have tried.

3) Melted Crayon Art - found on Craftgawker.org: I only found this piece of art today on the blog Unsimple Living through the fantastically awesome site, Craftgawker. The site is constantly updated with the most popular or most recent crafts and tutorials from all around the web compiled into easy browse through and beautifully designed website. I have a strong desire to do this crayon project as well.

4) Teesha Moore Fabric Journals - YouTube: This isn't a blog/forum post so much as a video I saw on YouTube. I was led there by a forgotten post but I was glad I did. These fantastic journals, created by crafter Teesha Moore are very easy to do and can be made with a wide range of materials. I've seen people turn them into bags and pillows and various other creative creations. I made a journal for my friend based on this video (pictures here).

5) Party Animal Necklace - Flamingo Toes: Aren't these awesome!! They are so cool and unique. One thing I love about Flamingo Toes are all the Anthropology jewelry knock off tutorials as well the Crush of the Week posts - a list complied of crafting inspirations and how-tos from various places.

6) DIY Wrap Bracelet - Honestly WTF: This not only inspired me, but countless other crafters on the web. I keep seeing these bracelets as well as variations everywhere. I've tried it myself and they have come out pretty well. The site is not crafting so much as fashion ideas and lemmings.

7) DIY Links - Chic Steals: I couldn't decided on one I really liked specifically so I decided to pick my favourite overall thing. Every so often, Carly, who started and runs the site, posts some links to new inspirations, DIYs and ideas. I really like the site because of the variety of topics (relating to fashion and DIY) and hearing stories about Carly's travels to Japan.

Hope y'all get creative! :)

Note: I claim no rights to the photos. They are taken from the sites where I found them. The sources are linked in the photo's caption.

Inspired Mistakes - A blog

Because I am currently in the midst of my dullest summer that I can remember and because I have an extraordinary amount of free time, I have decided to create another blog, something completely different. This is a crafting blog, to keep track of things and ideas I have about various types of crafts, as well as to provide some motivation to complete these projects.

It's called Inspired Mistakes because I am an amateur crafter and despite my best intentions, things don't usually turn out as planned. But the site will serve as a creative outlet in a different way and allow me to showcase and explain some things that do turn out well.

If you get the chance, check it out :)

***EDIT - Sept 4th*** I have decided to delete this blog because, as much as I enjoy creating things, I don't do it frequently enough to sustain an entire blog, nor to I have the energy to keep it up. I think I'll stick to the occasional post on I Saw A Turtle, though I might revive the blog at a later date. I really like the name and the formatting took soooo long. We'll just have to see :)
